INTRODUCTION
The Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the United States, spans more than 600,000 square feet and welcomes millions of visitors each year. As one of the most unique and celebrated aquariums in the world, it is committed to delivering immersive, high-quality experiences throughout its vast exhibits. To achieve this, the aquarium needed a reliable solution capable of extending AV signals across long distances while maintaining flawless visual performance.
THE CHALLENGE
Covering more than 600,000 square feet, the aquarium required video and audio sources to be distributed reliably to displays positioned across its expansive facility. With thousands of guests on-site each day, the system needed to be efficient, dependable, and capable of ensuring consistent, high-quality visuals that would enhance the visitor experience.
THE SOLUTION
The Georgia Aquarium partnered with Pro Sound and Video, an Orlando-based firm renowned for solving complex AV challenges in large-scale venues. The project was led by themed entertainment specialist Ken Bert, who leveraged his expertise in designing AV systems for high-traffic visitor attractions.
To meet the aquarium’s requirements, Pro Sound and Video selected PureLink’s PureStream™ line of AV over IP extenders. At the core of the installation was the VIP-300H-U, a 4K HDMI & USB/KM over IP encoder with PoE, known for its plug-and-play simplicity and reliable performance. Multiple sources were connected to displays across a local network using category cables, which proved to be the best fit for the aquarium’s infrastructure. Transmitters were quickly configured to separate output stream channels via their front panel interface, while receivers were matched to their corresponding signals.
The system was brought online rapidly and has been operating seamlessly for years, providing uninterrupted, broadcast-quality visuals throughout the aquarium’s expansive campus.
